Less than 5% wire loss is ideal; 10% loss is normal; but up to 50% or more loss is acceptable where sufficient water is available.

If wire loss or cost become excessive (wire size >#8 and cost >$500), consider ordering the high voltage model (440V), which can go twice the distance using the same size wire.

Example:

If you have 70gpm with 65psi, producing 1000Watts, you could go 875 feet using 12 gauge wire with a 5% loss, or 1750 feet with a 10% loss, or 1750 feet with a 5% loss using the high voltage model (440V).

Most houses find 400W more than adequate power (=9.6KW/day) and end up dumping the extra power into resistors. If 500W is sufficient, in the above example, you could go 17500 feet (10 x 5 = 50% loss @ 440V) and still have ample power.

UF or USE wire is made for outdoor direct-burial and is available, in single or three strands together, romex-style, 1000' rolls, in sizes 12/3 and 8/3.
